The Oshki monastery is located in a historic Tao Georgian region, currently in the territory of Turkey. Its name derives from the Taochi tribe that lived here in the past. Greek historian and military Xenophon passed through the lands of Taochi after an unsuccessful campaign in Persia. Many abandoned monuments of Medieval Georgian architecture are found in all territory of the ancient Tao kingdom. On the walls have preserved the inscriptions in medieval Georgian. It is known from the inscription that 50 builders, blacksmiths and carpenters participated during the construction. There were also 30 donkeys and 30 bulls carrying stones. The height of the temple is 34 meters. Construction lasted 10 years. In the year 978 in the Oshki monastery a more important work of the ancient Georgian literature was created: the "Code of Oshky", a first complete translation of the Bible into Georgian. Currently the Oshki Bible is kept in the monastery of the sacred mountain Athos in Greece.
