@Ladi6 from #GiveKateAVoice discusses her own experiences with women’s rights
Kiwi-Samoan recording artist Ladi6 has been called 'New Zealand's answer to Erykah Badu'. She has been an advocate for many health campaigns and has helped to profile certain issues, including mentoring incarcerated women in Christchurch women's prison. --- On 19 September 1893, New Zealand became the first country in the world to give women the right to vote. Suffrage movement leader Kate Sheppard’s words—words that helped move a nation and the world forward—have been lost through the years. To this day we have never heard this pioneering suffragette's voice, nor is there a single resource archiving her work. Now, 125 years on, eight champions of equality are bringing these powerful words back to life. This new project, , marks 125 years since New Zealand women successfully fought for the right to vote. Her words are spoken by eight prominent Kiwi women, including former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Helen Clark, politician Louisa Wall, accessibility innovator Minnie Baragwanath, businessperson Theresa Gattung, entrepreneur Alexia Hilbertidou, refugee advocate Faumata Bah, actor Miriama McDowell and musician Ladi 6.
