Barbara Staggs, Oklahoma state representative from 1994 to 2006 and member of the Democratic Party, served in the House District 14 seat and was a former superintendent of Tahlequah Public Schools. She talks about her experiences running for state representative in 1993 as a teacher. She notes the frugality of her first campaign and explains the value of women in office and the different perspectives they can provide. A few of her legislative efforts include the crossbow hunting bill, the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, and the Concealed Weapons bill. She also touches on the pressures of being a woman in government.
