@James Vencill: Armed Forces in Oklahoma
James Vencill, born in 1938, served in the U.S. military during his first career. He recalls being drafted into the Navy in 1961 and participating in humanitarian relief efforts before attending submarine school. He discusses enlisting in the Army following the completion of his Navy tour and about serving two tours in the Vietnam War. He details his experiences over the years and mentions the conflicts he witnessed. He comments on the impact his time in military has had on the rest of his life, such as experiencing the disabling effects of Agent Orange. He discusses the other work he has done outside of the military, being a graduate of Oklahoma State University, and life in retirement. This interview was conducted as part of the Armed Forces in Oklahoma Series of the Spotlighting Oklahoma Oral History Project at the OSU Library.
