I've been really wanting to practice tuning English with Miku. It's really difficult to get right. I almost got Luka to make this, but I thought it would be a fun challenge to make Una rap in English with her Japanese voice bank. I'm not sure if I even got her close to speaking English though (💦). I spent a lot of time trying to learn some new techniques with this song. Following Mitchie M's advice on his blog, I learned to fix sibilance (de-essing) in the vocaloid tracks manually by editing the wave forms. This is probably the single greatest method of improving the vocaloid sound. It's a lot of work but I don't think I'll ever make a vocaloid track again without doing this. I'm still having a lot of trouble with mixing everything together correctly. Trying to get the stereo separation right is very hard. I always make my own vocaloid tracks from scratch because it's more fun and I learn a lot by doing it. On this song I made the English track and about half of the rap tracks by ear. I used an existing VSQX as reference for some of the background vocals and a little bit of the rapping. I still had to rework the rap quite a bit to make it work with the Japanese voice bank but I technically cheated (💦).
