The Gotthard Steam Special arrives at Erstfeld from Wohlen-Arth Goldau. The two engines are both German Pacific types, i.e. with a 4-6-2 wheel arrangement. Engine 01 202 is now based in Switzerland. The even larger 01 1066 (now called 012 066-7 for computer compatibility) brought a train from Germany for a five day excursion across the Alps. The Swiss 01 202 group joined forces with them for this event. The two trains were combined at Wohlen AG. At Erstfeld, the engines will get their water supply replenished. Also, just for additional safety, an electric engine will here be added to the rear of the train. To keep in style, an absolutely beautifully renovated Ae 6/6 was brought in for that. It can be see in video # 04 of this set. Note the very short smoke stack on the second engine. It usually has a stack about the height (but wider) of the first engine. Could the short stack be an adaptation to the low catenary in some tunnels? The date: 5 March 2015.
