The IrAn-140 is an Ukrainian kit assembled in Isfahan at the Iranian aircraft manufacturer HESA. Alltogether, including all Ukrainian Aviant, Russian Aviakor and Iranian HESA models only a few were ever built. Many crashed due to different reasons, including this very aircraft featured in the film, only a few weeks after the pictures were taken!!! The plane itself is rather modern and an interesting bird. Once it was supposed to replace all the An-24 models as well as many others in Iran, but never managed to do so. In Iran the planes were used by the Police Aviation and Hesa / Persian Gulf / Sepahan Air (all being the same) from Isfahan. The airline used to fly many routs from Mehrabad after a morning flight from Isfahan to THR. Service aboard Sepahan air was great and the people of this airline so friendly and kind. It is such a sad thing that this tragedy struck this airline. Today only one frame seems to be remaining in airworthy condition with Motor Sich Airlines of Zaporozhie, Ukraine. These usually are operated to Moscow and from Kiev to Ushgorod. The ones that Yakutia Airlines flew seem to not be airworthy any longer. A strange fact is that the TV3 turboprops for this airliner are actually helicopter engines modified for this aircraft.
