@Los Dioses Rotos (Broken Gods) 1/9
Los Dioses Rotos, a new movie of Cuban cinema Havana (PL).- The Cuban movie maker Ernesto Daranas will have his debut soon with Los dioses rotos (The broken Gods), a look towards the myth of the pimp Alberto Yarini, who was shot dead by his French rivals in Havana at the start of the 20th century. With this project he won the award to the best fiction full-length movie rough cut in the last Poor Cinema International Festival from Gibara, headed by Humberto SolÃs in that eastern portion of the country. IÂm only aimed at offering a convincing approach to a legendary character who is still remembered in the neighborhood of San Isidro Âthe red quarter where he used to work and where he was murdered in the middle of the street, explained Daranas in a recent interview published in the Juventud Rebelde newspaper. In that same neighborhood was born, grew up and lives the rookie producer, who got in contact with the history of Yarini through a research that lead to a documentary series on the transformation of some areas of the Cuban capital. My intention is to avoid clichÃs and above everything else, to worry, to touch, to produce reflection on the ethic and moral perspective of the characters, found in a movie that is hard to classify, he said. The plot rests in the hands of Laura, a University professor immersed in a thesis on Yarini and the currency of his image in the collective memory from Havana. Daranas discovered that there are still flower arrangements around the tree where death surprised him as well as flowers in the tomb where he is to be found. Alberto Yarini was the black sheep of a rich family of strict morals that was very important in the intellectual life of the time. The author of the script, together with Natasha VÃzquez, he confesses that his movie flirts at times with documentary, even though it never abandons the domains of fiction. With great experience in tele-movies and other materials for Cuban television, to which he entered as an independent artist more than two decades ago, Daranas is full of illusion with the cast of actors and technical personnel he got together. On the first place, there is a group of actresses educated at the Higher Art Institute among who are to be found Annia Bu Maure, in his opinion, an almost perfect synthesis of being Cuban for her appearance and human projection. Together with them there will be other well established persons such as Isabel Santos, Patricio Wood, Mario Limonta and Silvia Ãguila. He wasnÂt as lucky in the search for the main character until he finally decided, after a casting process of more than 300 people, to take Carlos Ever Fonseca. We both worked very had, he pointed out. Daranas is famous for titles such as Los Ãltimos gaiteros de La Habana, Rey de EspaÃa Spanish-Speaking American Journalist Award, among others; Fillas de Galicia and ÂLa vida en rosa? Now, he only has to wait for Dioses rotos which will be his big start in the silver screen.
