Learn how you can use data and science to make work better at https://g.co/rework CJ Adams, product manager at Jigsaw, studies incivility in online behaviors. He shares that traditional methods for reducing incivility all have flaws, and machine learning combined with community feedback is a promising method to help people behave better. The dream of the internet is to have a place where diverse people can share their ideas respectfully—in reality, individuals can be so loud and rude that they discourage others from participating. A number of methods are currently employed to reduce incivility, including platform rules, real names policies, and flagging of inappropriate behavior. These solutions don’t seem to be working that well. Instead, Adams suggests that a combination of machine learning and community feedback can identify and reduce incivil online behavior, as video game company Riot Games recently shared in the journal Nature. This video was recorded at the re:Work 2016 event.
