"The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" is a 1969 film based on the novel by Muriel Spark. Set in 1930s Edinburgh, essentially it is about the relationship and influence a teacher has over a clique of schoolgirls and how she shapes their lives. The book has been filmed several times for tv and once for cinema (the 1969 film) and in my opinion, the film is the best of the lot. It's pretty close to the book and its very well-acted. The is the intro, in HD (but sadly only 720 and not 1080). Fans of Edinburgh may recognise the streets. The school exterior was filmed at what was then Donaldson's School for the Deaf in Henderson Row in Edinburgh. The building is now the rector's house for Edinburgh Academy which (now and then) is next door (off camera). If you like this, I'm also uploading the confrontation between Sandy and Miss Brodie and the end of the film. A small goof for those who like these things - right in the very start of this clip in the background (just below and to the right of Edinburgh castle) of the pan shot is a modern-looking white building. This is Goldbergs department store which was brand new when this film was shot (and where I went my mum in the seventies). Slightly out of place though for 30s Edinburgh lol. (To digress slightly, Goldberg & Sons was the only Scottish public company with a woman director. In the mid-1970s and it was the first retailer in Europe to introduce a comprehensive electronic point of sale system.) It's completely gone now as the whole area has been redeveloped - so this might be the only footage of it ;) Usual copyright disclaimer :) The film is available on dvd and is really good - so go buy it! :)
