rhialobran's video: Dartmoor Land of ice and fire sometimes very occasionally

@Dartmoor. Land of ice and fire...sometimes...very occasionally.
Since I received a dozen messages from half the kingdom away asking about the fire that had made national news, I thought I'd go take a look. Although several miles long, it didn't really need to garner as much attention as it did. The fact that it was on a spot that could be seen from 30 miles or more and a fire always looks more impressive at night would have caused the media coverage. That being said, it's sad to see such a large area blackened and wonder what of the smaller fauna, lizards, snakes and amphibians may have perished. I can't stress enough the dangers of fire in our (UK) highland areas especially in Molinia grasslands where from November to late April the grass can be tinder dry after only a few short dry days of wind. Believe me, if you accidently catch it on fire, you probably wont be putting it out. It readily takes a spark, burns hot and can outpace you. So be extra careful up there. I foresee a busy time this year in our wild places, it's up to the 'proper' outdoor community to spread the word and set an example, hikers, wildcampers, bushcrafters, survival preppers, zombie apocalypse trad jazz players and DayGlo Dereks (much the same thing in my opinion) whoever. Anyway enough guff, apologies for the wind noise...it was windy.
