rosarymaking's video: Prayer for the Philippines Disaster

@Prayer for the Philippines Disaster
http://www.rosaryparts.com offers this video so we can pray a Rosary for the people of the Philippines. Typhoon Haiyan has created a humanitarian disaster in the Philippines. The death toll is continuing to grow and the suffering will continue for many months. We offer this short history of the beginnings of Christianity in the Philippines and the Manila Metropolitan Cathedral-Basilica so we may all continue to pray for our Christian brothers and sisters who have been effected by this disaster. Manila has a long history of trade and commerce due to its location. It came under the rule of the Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi in 1571. The Spanish brought their culture and religion and would rule the area for three centuries. The original Diocese of Manila was created by Pope Gregory XIII in 1579 and was part of the Bishopric of Mexico like many other of the Spanish Colonies. The Manila Metropolitan Cathedral-Basilica, is dedicated to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. It is the seat of the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila . The Cathedral began as the Church of Manila, founded by Padre Juan de Vivero in 1571. It is located in the historic Intramuros district of Manila. The Cathedral has been damaged or destroyed a number of times over the centuries by fire, natural disasters and even bombardment in World War II. The current Cathedral was built in 1958. It is the eighth edition and was designed by Fernando Ocampo in a style that includes Neo-Romanesque and Byzantine elements. The Cathedral's facade replicates the previous Cathedral with a large rose glass window and prominent statues of the Saints sculpted in Roman travertine stone. Each section of the rose window is dedicated to one of the Apostles. The most famous statues include St. Francis Xavier and St Rose of Lima, patron saint of Latin America and the Philippines. Since earlier Cathedrals had been destroyed or greatly damaged by earthquakes, the 7 carillon bells which weigh many tons, and were cast by in Heidelberg Germany by Friedrich Schilling, were placed on the ground level. There is a famous life size full bronze statue of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception inside the cathedral. Corazon C. Aquino, 11th President of the Philippines, was honored by being the first woman to lie in state in the Cathedral. The Cathedral was declared a minor basilica by Blessed Pope John Paul II in 1981. This week pray a Rosary for the people of the Philippines and the healing so needed after this devastating Typhoon.
