Testing out some magnetic stir bars from belart.com - also on Amazon. What I found out was that for my model SH-3 machine, 50mm is already on the long side for stability. One inch was perfectly stable. 30-40mm is probably the most ideal size range as the best balance between stability and maximum flow - at least for this machine.
