scienceteacherhsu's video: Cellular State of Mind - Cell Parts Song Rap

@"Cellular State of Mind" - Cell Parts Song / Rap
3/06/2015 Update: Well, this video was taken down due to a copyright claim by EMI Music Publishing, but it is finally back up. The system worked, but very slowly, as it took 3 months to resolve this copyright issues, as seen below. While Youtube needs to fix their copyright system, I still think EMI Music Publishing should not have claimed copyright on a parody song that is made for non-profit educational purposes. If you see ads on this video, that means a copyright claim has occurred again, so please let me know. 12/22/2015 Update: If you are seeing ads with this video, please note that I am not making any money off of it. EMI Music Publishing and others have claimed copyright on this video, even though it is a parody that only utilizes the melody from Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind." The new lyrics (that I wrote) transform the pop song into one that educates students on parts of the cell, and thus, the video should now fall under fair use, as far as I understand. I have no desire to make money off of this video. It is a not-for-profit educational video. I only want people to learn. However, as a simple high school teacher, I don't really have the time or money to fight the copyright claim, and I don't want the video removed or my youtube account banned. Nevertheless, I can take a few minutes to write this update and let people know that the music companies are monetizing these videos (which aren't even viral). A song about parts and organelles of the cell, based on Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" Lyrics written by, song performed by, and Powerpoint slide show done by a simple high school science teacher named Mr. Hsu. This song and video have been made solely for educational purposes. Its level of depth and detail into the parts and organelles of the cell are aimed at High School College-Prep Biology students (at least the ones I teach). If you find any errors or omissions (i.e. I didn't mention tonoplasts), this is due to the fact that I didn't make this song specifically for AP Biology, Honors Biology, or College-Level Biology (although those students certainly enjoy it). Instead, I'm trying to make a song to appeal to students who aren't normally very interested in science (or at the very least they are not interested in memorizing a bunch of complicated words to something so small they'd never see it in their everyday lives), AND I'm being constrained by describing the many structures of a cell through a fairly recent and repetitive rap song... I actually performed this song for my students in class the day before our cell parts test. If you're lucky, you might find a video of such a live performance somewhere in the vast internet (quite a few of them were recording me singing it in class, after all). This video is a result of me taking a simple digital camera and aiming it at my computer to try and record the performance my students experienced (so sorry for the crude recording and poor quality). mp3 available: http://c3po.barnesos.net/~wakkonat/shhs/cellularstateofmind.mp3 Lyrics: Yeah! I'm lookin' in cells, Now I'm in the nucleus Right next to the DNA, But it's all in a haze, So it's call chromatin, And it can condense to Chromosomes which come in two, But that come's up later, dude! Nucleolus also there producin' all those ribosomes Right inside the nucleus, where we find the chromosomes. This is all surrounded by a nuclear envelope Made up of two layers, like players, which is really dope! Makin' up the holes - Nuclear pores: Allows few things to pass through, acting as doors, Like those ribosomes that leave the nucleus And float in cytoplasm, which is like a jelly mess! This fills up the inside! Inbetween ain't dry! Fluid supply supports like air holding up a kite! Contains many structures, Some known as specifically as Organelles, like little organs, that are most definitely called Cell Parts! These are all the things cells are made of! Without them you can't do (nothing, not nothing!) You need those cell parts! They're organelles that will help you, And make you feel brand new! Let's hear for
