My first real close up on the North side of Worlebury Iron Age Hill-Fort and the lushness of the surrounding woods and plant life--Lichens, mosses and ferns and the richness of the soil ...I felt the soil with my bare hands as I made the climb up the side of the hill-fort with strong branches reaching out for me to hold onto as I made my very muddy ascent.I felt the softness of the many leaves in my hands and under my feet created over the centuries with each Autumn fall and revealing a massive carpet of Life---Yes LIFE---Life in abundance here---a Winter environment at the moment---resting and asleep--a quiet peaceful place mainly undisturbed but for the gentle steps of the deer that enjoy this place.Also the badgers and the foxes that live here--the many insects, birds that thrive here-------BUT not for long because just along the main pathway the CLEARERS are coming--hacking,chopping, burning, raking and destroying this very special place of Peace---A new' PRIVATE' SIGN confronted me as soon as I entered the wood here-----yes Private---ownership by a few who now feel the power and have the go-ahead to strip this fort bare in the name of archaeology---Banwell Hill-fort springs to mind---all private---access denied to the villagers and visitors unless you come to purchase a plot---------and loads of PRIVATE signs even shooting signs---- and in some cases warning of traps over at Banwell Wood------- But as Bill Gates stipulated in his most recent book lately 'How To Avoid a Climate Disaster' he stressed the incentives for deforestation in most cases including the Amazon Forests was BUSINESS Incentives Quote " People Cut Down Trees for Incentives'---such as beef cows replacing trees, more dung, more methane, more air pollution, more death ---more burgers for profit ==== Less trees----Who knows all the hidden agendas riding on the back of Archaeology----------It starts at home with little wooded areas like our Hill-Fort and the place of the ancestors who would have loved trees big time and lived in harmony with them----------------How can a town like WSM be given no say in the decision making when there is no real communication just people securing the right to cut and hack----what are the real incentives for those in control here in town...In this day of rapid climate change we need to protect our plant life, the soil, the bees and butterflies---every acre is priceless------the archaeology is safe---what is not safe is the richness of our beautiful wood--the soil------a sacrifice and slaughter here will certainly have repercussions in the future with soil erosion, wind erosion.......exposure to the natural elements, to the abuse of human activity and the scene becoming a barren outcrop --devoid of peace and beauty with the archaeology a precious artifact manipulated not really protected------limestone rocks more exposed to wind and rain dissolving into the ocean below as the tides rise and reclaim-----A vanishing landscape folks before our eyes NOW------------I will observe and tell the Tale of Worlebury Woods & Hill-Fort x
