@A Burrough Green Circular Walk in 2010--An audio Pod created using cassette recorder and Photos
During my early years of family tree research trips (2005-2010) I used a hand held cassette recorder with mini tapes and instamatic cameras. The days before my Sony Video Cameras with excellent viewfinders and connections to the internet. But all these early cassette tapes are still working and very audible---the instamatic photos with negatives still good quality for copying and sharing--The cassette recorder is small, light and very useful for grave inscriptions and interviews--I used these for my MSc research interviews as well...So these basic tools still extremely useful...However, quite often external artefacts can distort the sound etc.. like humming computers or noisy tape wheels on the hand set--these can interfere with the ability of creating absolute perfect sound so you will hear crackles and other sounds that accompany the recording--but at the end of the day the tapes are extremely valuable and capture Sound & Vision in Space & Time---I visited many places that I may never visit again so those moments of discovery 'gold dust'... The walk starts from Burrough Green in Cambridgeshire where I walk in the footsteps of the ancestors and tread ground I have never trod before and may never have the chance to do so again--plus I too am getting older---but in 30 years of family tree research I have saved, shared and recorded a mass, a plethora of material--all sorts of stuff and felt and breathed the places, the lands of the Ancestors---ancestors 40 years ago I never knew existed---exciting times folks as more and more material arrives daily and extended with the DNA contribution as well...Living family contact me daily and give positive comments about my contribution to our shared family trees..... After Burrough Green the walk crosses fields and passes woodland once owned and farmed by my Oak ancestors---the church of St Augustine can be seen in the distance and where I visit much later in the walk---the church is recorded by video....Soon I come to St Peter's of Carlton where in 2006 I found the grave stone of Thomas Oak--the brother of my Great great grandfather Edward Oak--Thomas was also a farmer and buried at Carlton but over time his Gravestone was removed from the grave plot and now is propped up again the church wall--this was a great find in 2006 when I place a flower by the stone of Thomas...In 2010 I left a note for the church informing them of my connection to Thomas Oak and for the Grave stone to be protected.. I hope to revisit in the near future hopefully--its now 2024.. After Carlton I proceed towards Brinkley St.Mary where I also have ancestors over the centuries including the Brooks, Isaacsons and Stutevilles...These branches once lived in the large white manor house at Brinkley.....The walk then progresses on its circular mission back to Burrough Green----a very basic recording saved for posterity and FT...A wonderful walk embraced by the beauty of the ancestral countryside---so much history here
