All aspects of this walk is familiar to me as I have explored many pathways and tracks over the years and when I arrive at the old drove I am greeted by a beautiful avenue of tall majestic trees--so full of life, big and bold.These trees are the reminders of a local rural estate that once landscaped this area but like many of those 18th c manorial paradises all over England it has fallen into decline and almost abandoned--the big house gone and the gardens over grown.But evidence remains in old tracks, ruins and follies and the trees ..Last year while exploring tracks near here I came across such ruins including an old gatehouse or chapel and I did research a little--all found in the 2023 walk to Burrington Combe from Dolebury along a lower track on the north side of the Hillfort. The trees here are truly magnificent and powerhouses for Photosynthesis.A cathedral of trees line the old drove and I can imagine the old horse drawn carriages here on the drove..Some work has been started with some felling and clearing and the possibility of wandering deeper into the estate following a permissive pathway---yet to be explored by me......so many treasures in the hills, jewels and hidden gems waiting.........Keep walking !!!! so much to discover deep in the English countryside like history, geology, archaeology and ecology......I feel blessed being able to walk here and feel nature, breath pure fresh oxygenated air and embraced by Peace .....
