The Mendip Aerials high up near the AONB have grown in height I reckon over the past decade--have adapted and evolved with technology.I approached the masts from a steep lane I call a Roman Road because of its straightness---I had just left Velvet Bottom where the Romans had resided and mined for lead about 2000 years ago followed by the Victorians many moons later---this road left Velvet Bottom heading upwards towards the AONB and crossing the Mendip Hills on a marching route across Somerset.The lane tapers and becomes quite a muddy and watery track for a short while which I had to negotiate carefully before entering a field over a stile---once in the field a few people were wandering about collecting wild mushrooms---the cows were high up near the Masts so the route down towards Long Wood was safe despite the stream bursting its banks onto the minor road for Cheddar---this 'Babbling Brook' is a tributary that will eventually join other streams coming off the hills and heqading down thru the village of Cheddar--it flows thru Long Wood but disappears underground within the wood and may be has been deliberately diverted to avoid the pot holes and caves that are beneath the wood--swallets used by the cavers and pot-holers... A good walk with good Autumn weather--no rain, little wind and warmish---a few more videos to follow folks.............
