semw52's video: St Thomas East Orchard in Dorset Part II Tragedy in the Bastable family in 1877

During my visit in 2008 to St Thomas of East Orchard I found the churchyard beautifully peaceful and wild in places.Many graves were unreadable with long grasses, lichen and mosses and ivy concealing their owners but all are recorded in the record books and sketched on burial maps.I did find a Bastable grave of George Thomas Bastable 1820-1897, 2 daughters and Elizabeth wife and mother 1822-1877...Unknown to me at that time and for the next 15 years the tragic event in 1877 when another daughter Eliza Blanche Bastable was responsible for the murder of her mother.Details are recorded in newspapers and other documents.Basically Eliza had experienced some sort of mental health issue.Eliza had attended a boarding school and had a good education and became a teacher but when her younger sister died of TB age 10 Eliza she became very depressed and was hospitalized at a Quaker run institution in Bristol for a while and after a year she was allowed home...But she was not mentally well and tragically killed her own mother .Eliza was then committed to Broadmoor Prison Hospital for the rest of her life---a short life --she died aged 27 also of TB and is buried at Crowthorne............It might seem inappropriate to add this information but things like this do happen in the lives of people ...
