As we exchanged messages after completing our last offline collaboration on “Boro asha kore”, Rituparna forwarded me a link to a rendition of “Aaj jyotsna raate” from a Hoichoi original series - Six. Having grown up outside Bengal, my childhood exposure to Rabindrasangeet was fairly limited, thus although this was the first time I was hearing this - I fell for the melody instantly. With a 7/8 time signature, this was certainly going to be more challenging than other Tagore compositions I’d re-arranged in the past, but at the same time, the melody (based on Raag Behaag) was such that improvisational scope would be limitless. Needless to say, we both decided that this should be our next collaboration, and what you see and hear is the result. Personally, I have always enjoyed singing Rabindrasangeet, and for this rendition, I took the liberty of joining in on vocals with to make this a duet.
