I made this tutorial specifically for my viewers who have requested no-sew options. This is a great option for someone who wants to make a quick basic clothing item for one season or one special occasion. It's cheap, easy, and fun. Though sewing is more durable, I don't want to leave out my subscribers who do not know how to sew. If you know how, feel free to sew using the measurements I provided as a guideline. --------------------------------------- +MATERIALS: fabric (preferably something stretchy -- I used jersey knit; cotton knit is another good option), sharp scissors, Stitch Witchery, white eyeliner pencil/chalk, iron, washcloth --------------------------------------- +TIPS/TRICKS +Re-dampen the wash cloth occasionally. The stitch witchery relies on the steaming action. You'll be able to hear everything steaming up when you place the iron over the wash cloth. If you don't hear this, your cloth is probably not damp enough. +Follow all of the instructions that come with the stitch witchery (read the label). There are different brands so be sure to know what to set your iron to, how long to press the iron to the wash cloth, etc. +If you don't do this on an ironing board, place something like cardboard in the middle of the skirt so that you don't bond the front to the back. --------------------------------------- +GOT A QUESTION? +What TYPE OF FABRIC did you use? Jersey knit fabric purchased from Hobby Lobby at $6.99/yd. I purchased two yards (I'm tall & I wanted a floor length maxi), but most people can probably get away with purchasing 1.5 yards. +HOW MUCH FABRIC do I need? Refer to this diagram -- http://goo.gl/eJ7pc TOP = your waist + 3 in. BOTTOM = the top + 5-10 in. depending on how much you want the skirt to flare. I added 5 in. to my bottom measurement because I didn't want a lot of flare. If you don't want such a tight fitting skirt, add 10 inches. HEIGHT = measurement from waist to floor + 3 in. +Isn't sewing better? Yes. Sewing is more durable, but this video was requested by subscribers who (I'm assuming) don't know how to sew. Google DIY maxi skirt & you'll find plenty of tutorials involving sewing. There aren't as many no-sew options. If you do know how, feel free to use the same measurements & substitute sewing for Stitch Witchery. +How do I WASH it? You have 2 options. The best is to hand wash, but I know that some people (i.e. me) are too lazy for this. The 2nd option is to machine wash INSIDE of a garment bag & then hang to air dry. +Where can I get Stitch Witchery? Most craft stores (Michael's, Hobby Lobby). Walmart. OR order online. +Can I use fabric glue instead? Yes, but be sure to really apply pressure and to allow it ample time to dry before wearing. Also, choose a fabric glue with flexible hold. +Can you make me one? I get requests like this on most of my DIYs. There are 16,000 of you and one of me. To make clothing for all of you would be impossible & to make clothing for 1 of you would be unfair. +HOW LONG does it take? 30 min. - 1 hr. +How does it feel? Incredibly comfy. Like pajama pants, but more chic. +I'm STILL CONFUSED. More details about the process?
