This is the second in a series of videos on the ten mechanics that were buffed on the 3.20 Atlas in Path of Exile's Forbidden Sanctum expansion. These videos will be members-only for a short time, but will all be made public within a day of upload. Abyss support on the Atlas tree was pretty good in 3.17-3.19, but the base mechanic wasn't quite good enough for these nodes to shine. Sixteen new Abyss nodes just east of passive tree north add a lot of new value to Abyss. 42 points on the tree are needed to take all support, and a maximum of 24 travel points to connect to all of them. Less if you are already in Expedition, Breach or Harbinger, each of which pair well with Abyss, or Harvest, Betrayal, Strongboxes or Eater of Worlds which just happens to be close. Take it. It's more abysses (~0.32) on 8 mod maps. Interestingly, when we get to levelling via Abysses, the notable may well be the worst node here! Levelling via Abyss is best done in predictable maps where as little as possible can go wrong, which means transmuted or even scoured. Take this on all Abyss setups East Outer Cluster (Ancient Conflict, Abyss Scarab Sustain) The small nodes here are 15% increased monsters. This cluster is mandatory for any Abyss strategy other than Abyssal Depths ones. Ancient Conflict, the scarab sustain node, is 'meh'. Take on in-map Abyss setups. Optional on Depths setups. Inner Centre Cluster (Abyssal Army, Votive Hoard, XP) The right side here is complete rubbish and easily skipped (although it can be fun). The left side are the nodes that make Abyss so good for XP and tileset drops. Abyssal Army is so good you probably even want it if your strategy revolves around Abyssal Depths. Take Abyssal Army on all Abyss setups. Votive Hoard should be skipped unless you personally find it lots of fun. East Centre Cluster (Lightless Legion, Awakened Depths, Abyssal Depths) If you are setting up a tree for in-map Abyss events, only the first small node plays into that plan, and that's skippable. However, you can still take this cluster as you can run both in-map Abyss events and Depths together. Awakened Depths actually has a VERY slight countersynergy with the top-of-atlas cluster, but it's so small as to not really matter. Take on Abyssal Depths strategies. Skip on in-map-event strategies. North East Cluster (Corrupted Gaze, Abyssal Jewels) If you are an optimist, this cluster is weaker than you think. If you are a pessimist, it's better than you think. 20% is high enough that you'll proc this often. Most of these jewels will be bad, but a small minority won't be. All of the best jewels in a trade league will come from this node - but that doesn't mean YOU will see one. You might. Take on in-map-event strategies unless point starved. The New Northern Cluster (Abyss length and packsize) Every node in this cluster is good. Every node builds upon what has come before. This cluster, Abyssal Army and Polished (or better) Scarabs are a magnificent trio. So much XP. So many global drops, including tileset drops.
