@Endgame Uniques - Cold Iron Point, Why It's Good and When To Use It - Path of Exile POE
This is episode 2 of a new series I'm putting out. Episode 1 (Shavronne's Wrappings) is here: https://youtu.be/QMmNvwW0XpY More beginner friendly than many of my videos, I want to cover what sorts of builds will consider using this item, why it is good, and add a little on how to source it. Fair warning: Don't plan on getting two of these in SSF. It feels like a "one per 500 maps" drop rate based upon my personal experience, and there's no way to target farm it. +3 to level of physical spells is a huge boost. But the drawback is real. This item boosts physical spells which you don't scale though conversion. A lot of physical spells do scale though conversion though. Divine Ire, Glacial Cascade, Holy Flame Totem. These are all really bad with Cold Iron Point. In theory this works with Brutality Support but this doesn't really ever get used. There's not really enough other good support gems to empower a playstyle like that. (Though do feel free to try to prove me wrong, maybe you can make Ethereal Knives Nova Mines work with two Cold Iron Point and EK linked to Brutality Support, Blastchain Mine Support, Concentrated Effect Support, Controlled Destruction Support and Trap and Mine Damage Support, and using Pride as your main aura while possibly cursing enemies with Vulnerability and/or Punishment) It is used in three main ways. First, less powerful and less common, it scales Herald of Agony's Agony Crawler, which has a huge breakpoint at gem level 31. That little minion is a wrecking ball, albeit a wrecking ball with bad clearspeed. This was a top-tier build prior to Conquerors of the Atlas but hasn't improved much since (and HoAg suffered a not-insignificant nerf). Secondly and closely related, it's used to scale Carrion Golem on some minion builds. (Stone Golem too but that's less important) Thirdly, and much more often, it is used as a way to scale skills like Blade Vortex, Blade Blast, Ethereal Knives and Bladefall, especially for single target damage. At the time of making this video, EK is the weakest of those skills and sees little play, but the others are all good and can be used with or without poison. Ultimately CIP is an example of a unique that is really hard to beat in its niche. You can beat it in many builds with extraordinary rares, e.g. a mirror tier rune dagger with +1 to all spells, +1 to all physical spells and the Runic or Glyphic prefix for non-minion builds, or the same wand with top-end Redeemer or Crusader mods replacing Runic. But if you meet the prerequisites for using CIP, you aren't beating it under 20 exalts. i've set up one of those silly merchandise stores. https://merch.streamelements.com/sirgog if you want to buy anything there. also accepting bribes (not real bribes) at https://streamelements.com/sirgog/tip . if you'd rather spend money on other stuff, that's cool too.
