Just as the title says really, are electric motorcycles really the future of biking? I think they're a great bit of kit with just a couple of problems which I think stops them from being widely accepted. 1. The range, the max range for an electric motorcycle means it won't be a tourer or a solid commuter for some time yet, battery capacities will need to be optimised to handle the smaller factor that motorcycle batteries will need to be. 2. Charging on the go. The best thing about a petrol engine is that when you need petrol you just pull into a station and fill up, with electric motorcycles you need to wait for them to charge, time we just don't have in modern living. 3. The price. Currently, the price of electric motorcycles is a major put off. Costing more than the top of the range 1000cc supersports, it really does make a big difference to people buying them or not, they'd need to be at least half the price to even compete. Not to mention the raw sound of a motorcycle in full whack, you just don't get the same from an electric motorcycle, more of a whiney sound. Some benefits are obviously cost to run being less, faster acceleration is possible, saving the planet is a third. So there are some good and bad points to electric motorcycles and I really do think they'd be a great 2nd bike or the main bike in the future. Electric vehicles are the future and motorcycles can be the ones leading the pack. Just think, I don't even charge you for this viewing pleasure. Aren't you lucky.
