These maze-like limestone formations are located about 90km (56 miles) outside Kunming. The stone forest is huge and two parts of it have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The stone forest was created by seismic activity and erosion. There are caves, ponds and lakes. I even climbed to the top of one formation for an amazing view. One of my favorite things in the Stone Forest was Lake Yue (Moon Lake or 月湖.) It is stunningly beautiful and tranquil. It takes about 90 minutes to get there from Kunming Eastern Bus Station. The station is accessible by Metro. Make sure you catch the last bus out of the Stone Forest though.
