One of Bagan's best known temples, the Ananda Temple was built in 1105 during the Pagan Dynasty. There are four 9.5m (~31 feet) statues of Buddha, each facing a different direction: north, east, south and west. The temple is very well preserved, even though it suffered major damage during an earthquake in 1975. The Ananda Temple has a symmetrical structure. There is a beautiful gilded top called sikhara at the center of the building. The structure is 51m (~167 feet) tall.
