The world's largest tree measured by volume, General Sherman Tree, is located in the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park. It is a giant sequoia that is between 2300 - 2700 years old. It is 83.8m (275 ft) tall with a diameter of 11m (36 ft) at the base. You need to have a pass to enter Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks. You can use an annual pass or purchase a pass. In October 2020 the fee for a single vehicle is $35. The roads leading up are winding but well maintained. Please be advised that after dark, you will have to drive in the dark. The main trail starts off Wolverton Road (between the Sherman Tree and Lodgepole.) It is relatively easy both ways. Keep in mind that it is at an elevation of 2093m (6867 ft). The hike is about 800m (half a mile) and uphill on the way back. There is also a separate parking area for people with disabilities, that is much closer to the General Sherman Tree.
