solotripper's video: BLACK FLIES Chewed Up Camping In Canadian Wilderness

@BLACK FLIES! | Chewed Up Camping In Canadian Wilderness
Black Fly season is upon us as I head out for an overnight camp and canoe outing in the Canadian Wilderness. This location is one of several I use close to the town of Red Lake, Ontario in the Boreal Forest. Lying just east of the border to Woodland Caribou Provincial Park, it offers accessible wilderness within an hour of leaving work. After putting in a full day at the shop and getting some trips going, my Husky and I head out onto the lake for an overnight camp on a stellar site down the lake. The black fly season started slow, but that's now in the past as they are out in full force! Bit up, chewed up, clouds of these flying buggers in my face!! There's no escape and it'll only get worse! Still, some DEET, a bug shirt and a healthy attitude make it all manageable. I'm still amazed that so few people take the time to explore these areas. This lake is so close to town and yet I've never seen a soul on it....more space for me I guess. With camp setup, and the fire crackling, I feast on a steak with sauteed garlic, mushrooms and onions. A sunset dinner at it's best! Sharing it with my pup, our bellies were soon full. Loons, spring peepers and Beavers were all out as I relax by the fire and enjoy the last of the daylight. Morning came early as I woke around 4:00 AM to work on some photos in the soft light. After a few hours of looking for subjects to shoot, I packed up my gear and paddled down the lake back to my truck. Made it to work for 8:00 AM! Not everyone has access to this resource, surely not everyone can camp out each night and still make it to work on time. This is an incredibly special place. We are blessed. THANKS FOR WATCHING!
