stretta's video: 05 25 2020 edit

Hi, please read description before commenting / asking questions. This is a four minute section of a 30 minute capture, starting with no patch cables. I've been keeping musical snapshots of my work in progress since the Spring semester ended. Some of the recordings are more interesting than others. I hesitate releasing these studies, but also I just watched a video on restoring a Tonka Truck and enjoyed it immensely. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I make these snapshots because I need to remind myself of the results I'm getting as the software itself evolves. Often times I'll sanitize my software to the point where the surprise has been worked out of it. In retrospect, sometimes the bugs I fixed robbed it of some of its inherent musicality. Maybe the interesting parts are how I respond to some of the odd or unexpected results. This portion of the video is quite boring to look at, it's basically me building some subtle boomy drum voices that you don't end up noticing until 3:06 and after that it gets worse because I'm just sitting there with headphones, assessing the result. You get to listen along with me. Yay! This portion of the music fails to demonstrate any of the techniques I set out to achieve. The result you hear is a side effect of using the tools I developed to perform real time Risset rhythms. I find a lot of musicality in the processing that doesn't strictly produce the illusions I'm looking for. Is that failure? I'm using: A suite of Risset tools I developed as M4L devices that run in Ableton Live (four loopers that record linear time scale and output at Risset time scale and a device that produces four triggers at a Risset time scale that automatically subdivide when they cross the Risset loop point, This is sent to the modular via a crow module.)
