@CIA and Cocaine - How the CIA sparked the Crack-Epidemic
The MC Ma'at album - 'The Insurrection' is online! 19 tracks, grab it here - https://mcmaat.bandcamp.com/album/the-insurrection An interview with journalist Gary Webb and author Michael Levine. Pulitzer prize winning journalist Gary Webb wrote the Dark Alliance series for the San Jose Mercury News in 1996. In the Dark Alliance, Webb exposed how the CIA had been shipping thousands of tons of cocaine from the country Nicaragua to the United States. Gary Webb reported how the CIA received large amounts of cocaine in exchange for support of the Nicaraguan Contra rebel groups and death squads, who intended to overthrow the Nicaraguan government. With help from the CIA, Nicaraguan CIA operative Oscar Blandón imported this cocaine to the United States and supplied drug trafficker "Freeway" Rick Ross in Los Angeles. Ross used the cocaine imported by the CIA to set up a cocaine-distribution network in major cities throughout the United States. These events led to what is known as the 'Crack Epidemic in the United States'. The journalist Gary Webb was found dead in a hotel room in 2004 with two gunshot wounds to his head. His death was declared a suicide by the coroner's office. Subscribe. Spread the word.
