NONE OF THE MATERIAL BELONGS TO ME. THE FILM "NAUSICAA OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND" WAS DIRECTED BY THE MASTERFUL HAYAO MIYAZAKI, AND THIS COVER OF "DEFYING GRAVITY," FIRST WRITTEN FOR THE BROADWAY MUSICAL WICKED BY STEPHEN SCHWARTZ, IS BY KERRY ELLIS. I CLAIM NO OWNERSHIP IN EITHER OF THESE WORKS. ...What's that look for? 8D Yes, I joined a new MEP group -- DisneyFanGirlzStudio, my very first Non/Disney MEP group and only my second MEP group ever! And my first project for them is a piece showing what I can do featuring my representative character, Nausicaa from Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind! Although I partially chose Nausicaa because some other characters were chosen first, I'm actually really glad I chose her because not only am I the first to pick a Ghibli character (though, admittedly, Nausicaa prompted the creation of Ghibli and thus is not technically Ghibli), but I chose perhaps the most bad-ass and underappreciated animated heroine ever -- and a princess, no less! Anyone who hasn't seen Nausicaa, I would definitely recommend renting it -- I may not be a sci-fi person, but you kind of forget after a while that you're watching a movie centering around a post-apocalyptic world that's ruled over by a bunch of giant insects...the characters are so likable and the story is so engaging that they carry you through it even if sci-fi's not your thing. And somehow it can even make a bunch of giant insects -- these god-like things called ohmus -- seem sympathetic, and trust me, that's no small task with me. Plus, as I said, Nausicaa herself kicks ass -- so, in this project, I thought it best to make it like a trailer, so that anyone who hasn't seen Nausicaa will go out and look for it. It really is worth it, people. ;) Oh, and a big shout-out to my new friends at DisneyFanGirlzStudio! I look forward to working with all of you.
