Exciting news! Our New Zealand road trip begins with this video and we are going to travel around the country for the next 30 days. Starting in Tauranga, we are going all the way South to Dunedin on the very bottom of the South Island. This is the start of the new travel series about our NZ road trip and there will be more videos to come. Please consider subscribing to never miss a new episode. This 30-day New Zealand road trip began in Tauranga where we are based. Our goal for the first day was to get to Wellington and have some rest before departing to the South Island. The drive from Tauranga to Wellington is a nice one - lots of scenic views, especially when passing Tongariro National Park and when getting close to Wellington. Travel time is around 6 and a half hours, so you definitely would want to plan stops on your way or at least put some snacks and tea in your car. When in Wellington, we decided to spend a night at QT Wellington which is a very nice hotel located in the city centre across the road from Te Papa Museum. Beautiful interior and great hotel overall with a swimming pool, gym and kitchenette in rooms. We decided to have a quiet evening but obviously, there is a lot to do in Wellington, so you can easily find yourself in the middle of something. Cuba street is always a great option for dinner and action. Next morning we went for a short walk at the waterfront and then drove to the ferry terminal to check-in for a Cook Strait ferry. We usually go with Interislander but there are other options available as well. The sea was rough but manageable, and when we got to Marlborough Sounds, that was the first highlight of this road trip. The weather was amazing and the water was still. Views of the South Island from the ferry were absolutely spectacular and we were so lucky to even see dolphins jumping out of the water! Incredible! And after that, we drove to Christchurch to save some time for the next day but you can have a look at accommodations in Picton, Blenheim or Kaikoura if you don't like long drives. This is the start of our longest ever road trip. Even though we have more than 10 years of experience in travelling, this is our most exciting adventure! We are going to show you lots of amazing spots around New Zealand, share some incredible moments with you and learn lots about the history and nature of Aotearoa New Zealand.
