We're asking because syncing robot-to-robot is challenging enough... and you're asking for man versus machine." This was the question posed to us by The Shooting Gallery, the award-winning production house and crew that would help us bring "RISE" to life. We had just three days to shoot everything we wanted. "What can we do in one day?", we asked. "We managed to shoot an ice cube falling into a glass of water. What do you guys have in mind?" ...And the rest is history. So, here is the behind-the-scenes look at how we created "RISE" - perhaps the most ambitious and challenging Cardistry video ever produced. To give you an idea of the process, here’s a little trivia: “RISE" was filmed with a Phantom Flex4K high-speed camera mounted to a cinematic robot arm, Bolt. Every single camera movement, angle, and focal point had to be pre-programmed before we started shooting. Basically, man had to match machine, or be left behind. In essence, we had to synchronize our movements to the robot arm perfectly for every single shot. If our timing was even a little bit off, we had to start all over again. That meant an entire crew waiting on us, and lost time that we would never get back. Thankfully, after a ton of trying, failing, and trying again, we miraculously managed to shoot 13 scenes over the 3 days - taking an average of 2.5 hours to film each scene. The result, however, made everything completely worth it. Above all, it perfectly encapsulated the message behind "RISE" - that in order to progress, one must first embrace failure. Plus, it makes for some really cool BTS footage. ;) Enjoy!
