Derived from Cardistry’s core movements and forms, the Virtuoso deck featured the first ever functional back design - Adaptive Aesthetics - that adapted to visually accentuate every single card flourish a Cardist performed. While the deck quickly proceeded to become the choice of top Cardists around the globe, we started to notice a fascinating side effect that we had never planned for or imagined possible: Little by little, artists (yes, not just cardists) around the globe were beginning to craft beautiful art pieces by assembling Virtuoso cards into gorgeous mosaic patterns. And perhaps, what fascinated us the most was that these mosaics did not looked like they were made up of cards at all. They were simply art pieces. The Virtuoso deck had birthed an entirely new genre of Cardistry - what the community now calls "Static Cardistry". Of the countless Static Cardistry pieces that we had seen, the designs of one artist stood out the most to us - Harapan Ong. We approached him to craft and feature several of his art pieces this video, and thankfully, he agreed. Yet, one question remained: How would we use video to powerfully showcase a genre of Cardistry that inherently involved no movement at all? Then it struck us: Stop motion. Painstakingly created by photographing each Static Cardistry piece at each stage of its construction (yes, card by card), we spent hours with Harapan in the studio re-creating his art pieces for this new video (thank you Harapan). From there, each photograph was tediously strung together to produce the animations you see in this video. Yep, there's no CG or any camera trickery involved. All of this was captured in camera for real. The result? The very first Cardistry video featuring stop motion, Static Cardistry, and of course... no hands at all. This is "No Hands". Enjoy.
