Hurstwic's video: Hurstwic: Icelandic Runes

@Hurstwic: Icelandic Runes
One in a series of presentations for the Hurstwic Heathen Study Group, an organization that meets monthly for informal presentations and discussions on topics of interest to heathens and to anyone with a passion for Norse-related topics. Most people are unaware of the runic material found in Iceland, dating from the earliest part of the 9th century settlement, through to the early 20th century. Icelanders even modified the younger futhork to meet the needs of their own language. This presentation by Dr. William R. Short begins by reviewing the alphabetic writing system known as runes, including the elder futhork and the younger furthork and the rune poems that provide insight into their meanings. We then looks at the Icelandic material, including the Icelandic futhork, the Icelandic rune poem, and some examples of Icelandic runic material.
