@History of YouTube: This is how it all began...
In YouTube's 15 year history a lot of interesting things happened. In this video, Jan from @So geht YouTube will show you the history of YouTube - the evolution over 15 years. What was the first video with 1 million views, and what is the potential future of this platform? ▬ Contents of this video ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 - Intro 00:45 - The History of YouTube 01:18 - The first YouTuber: Jawed Karim 01:51 - The first video with one million views 02:25 - YouTube gets bought by Google 03:50 - How YouTube channels used to look like 05:14 - YouTube becomes a platform for brands 05:26 - Major issues that YouTube faced 07:23 - The future of YouTube YouTube is one of the biggest platforms on the internet: 2 billion monthly active users, 80 different languages, and 1 billion hours of video watched daily. Youtube started with 3 PayPal employees (Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim) who launched a video dating website called “TuneIn Hookup”. The idea was that you could upload videos to find dates. However, this didn’t work out and the founders changed the site to the general video hosting website and named it “YouTube”. The first-ever video was uploaded on April 23, 2005. It was called “Me at the zoo” and was filmed by the YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim at the San Diego Zoo. Already at that time, YouTube had some features that we are familiar with in 2020: videos (of course), playlists, full-screen view, and subscriptions. One of the milestones was broken as the first video reached 1 million views. It was an ad for Nikes featuring Ronaldinho. During the summer of 2006, YouTube was one of the fastest-growing sites on the World Wide Web with more than 65,000 new video uploads and nearly 20 million visitors per month. On the 9th of October 2006, one big change happened to YouTube. It was bought by Google for 1.65 billion dollars and from there on YouTube grew a lot. Major Changes in YouTube's 15 years: 2007 May Partner Program 2007 August First Advertisements 2007 Local language versions 2008 480p videos 2008 Video analytics tool 2009 720p & 1080p videos 2010 "Thumbs" rating system 2010 4K video 2010 Movie renting on YouTube 2011 Watch page change to how we know it today (or at least similar) 2011 YouTube Analytics 2011 Livestreams 2013 New Channel design 2013 Algorithm change “Klicks -- Watchtime” 2017 New Logo 2017 New homepage The initial theme of YouTube was “Broadcast Yourself”. However, it changed a lot during the years, and now YouTube is also an attractive platform for big media companies and brands. One of the major problems for YouTube is to keep the balance between viewers, YouTubers, and advertisers. Maybe you have heard about the “YouTube Adpocalypse” in early 2017 when ads were shown before extremist content, and advertisers boycotted and withdrew from YouTube. YouTube tried to escalate and removed advertisements from a lot of videos, but it caused a big outcry from creators as they saw their livelihood threatened. What lies in the future? Nobody knows, but a lot of changes are happening. For example, more monetization features and community features are introduced. Undoubtedly, the competition is getting tougher and it gets harder every day to stand out of the crowd for brands and creators. ▬ About tubics ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ is a Video Marketing software that helps businesses and YouTube creators to rank their videos better on search engines like YouTube and Google.
