This is an amazingly varied and fun game for the limited Atari 2600. Especially in its time. Speaking of time… most places say this came out in 1979, but no official publication from Atari mention this until 1980, no magazine in 1979 has any indication this exists… so I'm going to go with the "Coming Soon…" graphic in the Atari Catalog of 1980's. In any case, this is NOT a port of "Colossal Cave" or "Adventure" that first appeared on Mainframes. It IS inspired by that famous text-adventure, but it doesn't even try to be the same thing. Instead, the idea was how to have a similar type of adventure in a graphic environment. Limited one at that. With one button to perform all the actions you need. So, given all those limitations, this is just a terrific game. 3 levels, with the simple adventure, the full adventure, and level 3 is completely random - which greatly increases replay value. Go room to room, find the keys to unlock castles, get the sword to kill the dragons, eventually find the golden chalice and return it to the yellow castle to win. This game even had one of the earliest Easter Eggs - a hidden room that displayed the name of the designer - Warren Robinett. Clearly a classic for its history and its easter egg… but also for the gameplay. Still very playable to modern players… you just have to put up with the duck dragons. They'll swallow all four pixels of you in a single gulp!
