Bally Midway © 1979 [Console] Bally Astrocade Emulator: MAME 0.226 When you first start up this program, you are asked how many points you want to play to. I typed in 5... then sat around thinking it was broken. Couldn't hit enter, no buttons worked... finally hit another number (ie 0) and realized it was waiting for a two digit number the whole time. Weak programming here. You have to enter "05" if you want to go to five. Or RTFM? I know, I know.. hit "=" if you enter less than 10 it says. In any case, this is trying to be the Amazing Maze arcade game, but it has one major flaw - the time it takes to "render" the maze itself. At first I thought the cart was broken (yes, again) as all this weird gobble-d-gook filled the bottom of the screen with random noise. But no.. this is the maze generator taking its time to create a maze. In the arcade it was instant. As for gameplay, its fairly good. You navigate through the maze before your opponent can. There isn't much room for error.. you have a slight headstart, and move a little more rapidly... but if you take any major detour, it's point over for you. The best method is to try to quickly trace backwards from the other side of the screen to your starting location so you can avoid major detours. That... or PAUSE the emulator and simply study the maze, but where's the challenge there, eh? In any case, it was easy to WIN - especially if you only play to 1 points. WIN - HARD. :-)
