Entry. This is my short film, speaking of my truth and of my journey with self-love. I believe if we all share our stories we can help heal each other and know that we are not alone, if you are someone that deals with this as well. This is my battle with obtaining self-love... What's yours? ------------------------------- Purpose of the film: I grew up in Winder, GA going to a PWI and my most vivid memory that I can connect with to that school is being the only person of color in my class for two years consecutively. At a young age it isn't easy fitting in when all your friends are playing in each others hair and when you let them touch yours and they are almost astonished in a sense because your hair is so different. It was difficult to accept myself when it felt like I had no one to go through it with or who could understand me. Due to past experiences I chose to focus my film on self-love because every person goes through a passage of self acceptance in life and continues to because choosing self-love means committing to a life long decision to embrace yourself for all of your parts. This is important to me because having self-love plays a factor in many parts of a person's life such as relationships, mental state, and physical state. My battle with self-love has been on-going since the first time I felt inadequate next to another female in third grade when she shamed me for my skin color and hair texture. ----------------------- Thank you for listening to my truth, I hope it helps others who have been through something similar to this or is going through something, like this at the moment.
