Kevin Drinkell, John Brown and Ally McCoist, who also missed a penalty, all scored doubles as Rangers advanced into the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup with an eight-goal show against Stranraer. Ian Ferguson opened the scoring in the 11th minute but it was a five goal burst just before half-time that ended the match as a contest. Drinkell, Brown, McCoist and Mark Walters scored within a six minute spell and although McCoist scored the eighth goal with twenty minutes remaining there was to be no further scoring.
