@Elementary Productions: Dehydrogenation of Acetylene by Cl2
Chlorine gas is made by adding concentrated Hydrochloric acid to some Potassium Permanganate. The Chlorine gas is bubbled through water. As Calcium Carbide is added to the water, Acetylene gas is made. The Chlorine dehydrogenates the Acetylene, producing Hydrogen Chloride gas, elemental Carbon and a lot of heat. The heat then ignites the Acetylene. Chemical reactions: CaC2 + 2H2O → C2H2 + Ca(OH)2 C2H2 + Cl2 → 2HCl + 2C Ca(OH)2 + 2HCl → CaCl2 + 2H2O
