wildfire19861987's video: Union Pacific 844 on the Salina sub - 8-14-12

Once again me and Eric teamed up to chase the 844 from Topeka to Salina. Thanks to the slower speed of the Salina subdivision, servicing stops, and the road network, we were able to get ahead of it several times all the way to Salina. The best part was the first 22 miles between Silver Lake and Wamego. Highway 24 runs along the tracks here, and we paced it between those 2 points. A light rain caused some spots on my lens several times, but there wasn't much I could do about that. After it was tied down at the depot, we caught some other sites there including a Kansas and Oklahoma train with BNSF engines, and a UP switcher with 2, 3 window SD-60M's. After that we headed South to McPherson to catch more sites, and hopefully trains. The only train was a UP doublestack on the former Rock Island line. We couldn't get ahead of it so we settled for more pacing on Hwy. 61 from Mc. Pherson to West of Inman. This highway is now 4 lane which, coupled with light traffic, made it easy. Unfortunately in a few spots the new road turns away from the tracks, making it harder to pace and to get to grade crossing locations (some of which were removed also). I took photos of other stuff also, including Kyle RR engines at Solomon on the wye, Salina's Missouri Pacific passenger and freight depots, the Santa Fe depot and an interlocking tower at McPherson, and the Rock Island depot and caboose at Inman.
