Later he elimintaed Etude in A Minor (No.3) and Etude in D Minor (No.5) from this set (on this recording they have been restored). The famous Etude in A Minor was transferred by the composer from the first set of Etudes-Tableaux into the second op.39, on which he worked in 1916-1917. On this recording this Etude is designated as No.6 in op.39. The title "Etudes-Tableaux" to the set of pieces of op.39 was not affixed immediately, When three of these pieces were first played in St. Petersburg on December 5, 1911 they were called preludes-tableaux and received their present title only a few days later, after their introduction in Moscow on the 13th of December. Biography (written by V. Mutzmacher in the 70s). Alexei Nasedkin’s name appeared in the press when he was still a student of the Central School attached to the Moscow Conservatory. At the age of four he began to study music and when he was seven he wrote an opera to the plot of Pushkin’s tale in verse “The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish”. And though in later years Nasedkin devoted himself to pianistic art he continued his experiments in composition (for example he is the author of an interesting piano sonata). Alexei Nasedkin received excellent pianistic training: in the Central School of Music he studied with A. Artobolevskaya and in the Moscow Conservatory with professors H. Neuhaus and L. Naumov. In 1951 the nine-year old pianist gave his first public concert in which he played Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto with the orchestra conducted by N. Rakhlin. In 1959, when still a student of the Musical School, Nasedkin was awarded with the first prize and gold medal at the International Competition of Pianists held at the VII Festival of Youth and Students in Vienna. The pianist was made laureate of the II Tchaikovsky International Competition (Moscow 1962) and the International Competition of Pianists in Leeds (Great Britain) in1966. In 1967 he scored two more victories at the international competitions held in Vienna: the Schubert Competition and ‘20th Century Music’. In the same year he won top prizes at the competition for Chamber Ensembles in Munich (jointly with cellist Natalia Gutman). Nasedkin’s creative achievements and his extensive concert activities confirm the words of H. Neuhaus who wrote about his pupil: ‘Alexy Nasedkin’s communion with music and the piano brings him true enjoyment. I see in him the markings of an excellent musician who will one day amaze the world with his profoundly and inspiration … ’. Today Alexei Nasedkin is a mature musician, who concertizes with invariable success both in the USSR and abroad. He has given recital in Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Austria, England, Belgium, the USA, the FRG, Japan and other Countries. Dwelling on the performance of the pianist, the journal “Sovetskaya muyzka” wrote: “Today we find in A. Nasedkin the most precious quality that an artist can process, his own characteristic style of playing, a style that has fully crystallized”. Nasedkin’s repertory embraces an impressive number of different authors and he continues replenish it with new names and new competitions. The pianist shows permanent interest in the works of Sovjet Composers: Prokofiev, An. Alexandrov, Galyin, Shchedrin and others. His programmes include sonatas by Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms, ‘Symphonic Etudes’ by Schumann, ‘Pictures from the Exhibition’ by Mussorgsky, and pieces by Debussy, Ravelm Scriabin, Rachmaninov and Chopin. Alexei Nasedkin has been awarded the metal of the Dinu Lipatti English Society. In 1971 the pianist was decorated with the order ‘Badge of Honour’.
