yBC.tv's video: 90 of cyber attacks are routed in human error

@90% of cyber attacks are routed in human error
Cyber security is a massive issue with both business and government today. For me, the core of the issue is that it's not really about technology. Our technology has got more and more secure over the years, it's really about people. So 90% of all cyber attacks often have their route within human mistakes, so that will be a cyber attack where a component, a part of it has either been started by, or an element of it has been created by human negligence or mistake making. Often IT professionals want to really focus on the technology, which is completely understandable because you can control it. For me though the real challenge with cyber security is how do you create an environment where people can be as secure as possible? I think a really, a phrase that I love is productive security, so to give you an example, if I was to go into a business and say everyone has to change their passwords every day, instantly you'd just create chaos, because how do you think of a new password? You'll probably create insecurity of passwords because you'll just change numbers on the end... It's a disaster. Whereas actually if you think of something like LastPass which is a password manager, if I told everyone in the company to install that, suddenly they don't have to remember any passwords apart from their one master password. And they can be changed almost with a click of a button. So instantly using a new tool and almost a psychological way of thinking, of how can we make people's day jobs as easy as possible whilst also making it as secure as possible, that is the huge opportunity, and I think if companies thought more in a productive security sort of way I think we'd see huge, both efficiency gains and also more security behaviours.
