ziocody's video: Haynesville Shale: Hydraulic Fracturing

@Haynesville Shale: Hydraulic Fracturing
(2SH WALKING) This pond has been here for, well, since the Civil War...14.55.53 [duration:0:03] PAUL BISON AGREED BACK IN MARCH TO LET CHESAPEAKE DRILL A WELL ON HIS 80 ACRES IN KEITHVILLE. PAUL BISON: "Nobody in the section, in the neighborhood is gonna ever benefit unless somebody lets 'em drill. 15.08.04 and when we leased three years ago, we knew what it was for, we took the money and now it's time for somebody to step up to the plate and help em let it happen."[Duration:0:12] NAT FRAC JOB [Duration:0:03] FIVE MONTHS LATER, THE BISON 31 H1 WELL WAS IN THE FINAL STAGES OF COMPLETION...HYDRAULIC FRACTURING. [Notes:ANIMATION] WATER AND SAND ARE FORCED DOWN THE WELLBORE AND INTO THE SHALE -- OPENING FRACTURES IN THE ROCK, CREATING A PATH FOR THE TRAPPED GAS TO ESCAPE. CROY STANDUP: It takes anywhere from two to three million gallons of water to complete a well like this -- and 2/3rds of it is used in the fracing alone. That's a lot of water. So in this case, Chesapeake asked landowner Paul Bison if they could buy surface water from his pond.[Duration:0:15] BISON " I mean they proposed early on to use the pond water as opposed to drilling wells and pulling out of the water table with was a good thing for everybody, so I was all for that." [Duration:0:05] STILL, THEY DID HAVE TO DRILL FOUR SUPPLY WELLS. BISON: "I mean it saved them from having to drill seven wells. // I'd much rather they use the water that was free than to pump it out of the ground, too, so it was a no-brainer. [duration:0:08] BUT THE BISON 31 H1 IS JUST ONE WELL...AND SOME SAY ALL THE RECENT DRILLING IS PUSHING THE CARRIZO-WILCOX AQUIFER IT TO IT'S LIMITS. BEN McGEE/U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY: "You're going to see some detrimental effects locally and then once that well is fracked and they move to another area you may see some detrimental effects in those areas.."[Duration:0:05] CHESAPEAKE POINTS OUT THAT *THEIR OPERATIONS ONLY ACCOUNT FOR ABOUT 3/10THS OF A PERCENT OF THE SEVEN BILLION GALLONS OF WATER CONSUMED EACH YEAR IN NORTHWEST LOUISIANA...SUGGESTING THERE ARE *BIGGER DRAINS ON THE WATER SUPPLY THAN THE OIL & GAS INDUSTRY. KEVIN McCOTTER/CHESAPEAKE you know, one of the most interesting things is that a well over a typical 20 year life of a well uses about 84k barrels of water in Shreveport and Bossier, [Notes:golf course vo] our 10 golf courses consume 94k barrels of water over a 2-day period. 20:02 [Duration:0:19] STILL, WORRIES ABOUT WATER USAGE HAVE PROMPTED CALLS FOR CONSERVATION, AND COMPANIES LIKE CHESAPEAKE ARE SEEKING ALTERNATIVE SOURCES...LIKE THE RED RIVER AND TOLEDO BEND. KEVIN McCOTTER/CHESAPEAKE "Heck, we're even testing the ability to use grey water, which would be treated water from a sewerage plant.if it's got the right qualities it could be used in the fracturing process."[Duration:0:10] BUT THE ACTUAL *USE OF GREY WATER IS STILL A FEW YEARS AWAY. IN THE MEANTIME, THEY'LL HAVE TO KEEP DRILLING SUPPLY WELLS, BUY IT FROM LOCAL PUBLIC SUPPLIES, TRUCK IT IN, OR DRAW IT FROM SURFACE WATERS. [Notes:will have to cover - can use access road/gate broll] BISON "Having the access road to the back of the property was an advantage to us" [Duration:0:04] FOR PAUL BISON, HAVING CHESAPEAKE FOR A NEIGHBOR AND PARTNER HAS BEEN A WIN-WIN... BISON , "Thus far it's been great, yk it's been a lot less noise a lot less intrusiveness than I had ever imagined they would be. [Duration:0:07] FRAC NOISE WITHIN 24 HOURS OF FINISHING THE FIVE DAY FRAC JOB DROP TO RELATIVE SILENCE THE TRUCKS AND WORKERS ARE GONE nat well head hissing? AND THE NATURAL GAS IS FLOWING TO MARKET. McCOTTER: "Long term from now, this could be a green pasture again, with the exception of a well head that coexists along with a herd of cattle."[Duration:0:09] IDYLLIC IMAGERY THAT COULD INDEED BECOME PART OF THE LANDSCAPE, AS THE THOUSANDS OF WELLS PLANNED FOR THE HAYNESVILLE SHALE BECOME REALITY OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL YEARS. IN KEITHVILLE, CAROLYN ROY, KSLA NEWS 12.
