LAST WEEK, WE FEATURED CONGRESSMAN FLEMING IN OUR NEWSMAKER REPORT... IN TONIGHT'S NEWSMAKER, PHOTOJOURNALIST CODY JENNINGS TALKS WITH RANDALL LORD ABOUT HIS VIEWS. Verbatim from interview. Lord My name is Randall Lord, I'm running for congress Louisiana 4th Congressional District. The reason I'm running is mainly for two reasons. One, I think the people should have the right to have a choice in who represents them and I found out no one was running against Dr. Fleming so I decided it was time to do something about that. And of course the real reason I am running is because he does not represent all of the peoples views in this district. He tends to represent only a very select group of people and he seems to have no concern about civil liberties and I am very strongly concerned about that. Jennings Tell us a little about your background, you were a chiropractor. Lord Yeah I was a chiropractor for 25 years I believe and after that I went through medical school and now I'm actually a student here at LSUS again as a psychology major, I'm in my last semester. Jennings Congressman Fleming is a well known businessman, he has served multiple terms and you have said that you are realistic but you are still giving this 100% Lord Oh yeah, this is not a joke I'm going to give it all I've got. The issues are very serious that our country is facing. Something's got to be done about it and as far as I'm concerned he's not too concerned about some of those. Jennings You are running as a libertarian, only a small portion are familiar with what that is, walk us through that. Lord That's true. A libertarian basically a third political party that is concerned with civil liberties. We care about how our government sticks to the constitution or not. Of course our concern is the neither the democrats or the republicans are sticking to it. They are just making up their own rules as they go along and telling you that you gotta like it so we try to offer an alternative to both of those views and try to represent what our founding fathers wanted our constitution to be; what we wanted this nation to be about. Jennings Some who compare the two parties; republicans and libertarians, there are some similarities and there are some major differences. Lord That's true, there are similarities between libertarians and democrats and in some areas we are the same or similar to republicans. We tend to agree on fiscal issues and we tend to agree with democrats on civil liberty issues. Jennings Fleming, the last thing I heard from him was that he supported some type of stimulus and I'm assuming that would be one of the major differences between him and yourself. Lord That's true. Our constitution does not authorize the government to stimulate businesses or pick out which businesses fail or succeed. That is completely unconstitutional. The government shouldn't step in and decide which product or which company should be surviving. And doing it with tax payer money. Jennings Let's just say you win. What are some of the things you would do as a congressman? Lord Some of the issues I'm concerned about for example is the National Defense Authorization Act which Dr. Fleming signed on to. That bill basically strips every citizen of numerous rights. It strips you of your 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th constitution amendments. Those are the type of things that we as Americans tend to stand up for and say no you can't do that to your own citizens. And now our government has the authorization by people like Dr. Fleming to do that to us. So, yeah I care about that a lot.
