Ian's video: Contemporary Modern Soul - Impromp2 - When Will Things Change - 2003

@Contemporary Modern Soul - Impromp2 - When Will Things Change - 2003
...August 29th 1970 & 30,000 Chicanos of every age and background march through East Los Angeles in protest against the Vietnam War. The march and rally is organized by the Chicano Moratorium - an activist movement led by Chicano students and Brown Berets. They decry the deaths of Chicanos in Vietnam and push for social justice in Barrios across the western U.S. During the rally, while children, youth, and families listen to speeches and enjoy cultural performances, L.A. riot police attack the demonstrators with tear gas and violence, turning a peaceful assembly into a riot. By the end of the day, buildings are burned, many are injured, and four people are killed by police. Fast forward to 1992 & further civil disturbance errupt in Los Angeles County, following the acquittal of police officers on trial for a widely-covered police brutality incident. The Officers had been videotaped beating Rodney King, following a high-speed police pursuit. 11 years later & Johnny Britt and Sean E. Mac - collectively local LA group Impromp2 - released the 2003 modern soul anthem ''When Will Things Change'' for Big 3 records - a perfect socially conscious summary of those earlier trying times.
