İstanbul Kültür Sanat Vakfı's video: Ele tirel Yemek Program : Yeni D nya urubu Hummal El The New World Syrup The Fever Hand

Yeni Dünya Şurubu & Hummalı El Vivian Caccuri “Yeni Dünya Şurubu & Hummalı El”, Güney Amerika’da sarıhummanın yeniden ortaya çıkmasından esinlenen bir performans dersi. Sömürgelerdeki şeker plantasyonları ile yakından ilişkili bu eski hastalık, Brezilya’nın şeker üretimi yapılan Kuzeydoğu kıyılarında yaygınlaşmıştı. Bu plantasyonlar, Afrikalıları taşıyan Avrupalı köle ticareti gemileriyle Amerika kıtasına gelen taşıyıcı sivrisinek Aedes aegypti’nin çoğalması için mükemmel bir ortam sunuyordu. 2018 ile 2019 arasında Brezilya’da, aralık ayından mayıs ayına kadar görülen mevsimsel sarıhumma yüzünden en az otuz altı ölüm gerçekleşti. Vivian Caccuri, "Sarıhummanın Brezilya’da böylesi bir politik kargaşa döneminde geri gelmeyi 'tercih etmesi' oldukça ironik. Bu yüzden bu performansta tarihsel halüsinasyonu temel form olarak benimsedim," diyor. Sanatçı, bu performansta şekerkamışı, sarıhumma, Katoliklik, müziğin sömürgelerdeki etkileşimleri nasıl yansıttığı ve Güney Amerikalıların bedenlerinin akıbeti arasında bağlantılar kuruyor. Bu yarı kurgusal hikâyeyi anlatırken, kilise tarzı büyük bir orgda kendi bestelediği bir parça, çizimler, tarihsel imgeler, video ve seslerin yanı sıra kendi sesini de kullanıyor. Eleştirel Yemek Programı, mutfağı tasarım odaklı düşüncenin ve üretimin merkezi olarak yeniden hayal eden filmler, dersler ve performanslardan oluşan dijital bir video serisi. Bu program, "Empatiye Dönüş: Birden fazlası için tasarım" başlığıyla düzenlenen 5. İstanbul Tasarım Bienali kapsamında gerçekleştiriliyor. *Bu filmdeki bazı sahneler bazı izleyicilerimizi rahatsız edebilir. // The New World Syrup & The Fever Hand Vivian Caccuri “The New World Syrup & The Fever Hand” is a performance lecture inspired by the return of yellow fever in South America. This old disease is deeply connected to the colonial sugar plantations in the Americas, and thrived in the Brazilian Northeast coast – its sugar production region – where plantations created the perfect environment for Aedes aegypti, the carrier mosquito imported from the African continent by European slave ships to the Americas. With at least thirty-six deaths between 2018 and 2019, Brazil has a seasonal period for yellow fever, which occurs from December to May. ‘It’s ironic that yellow fever “chose” to come back during such political turmoil in Brazil. This is why the main form for the performance is that of a historical hallucination’, says Vivian Caccuri. She makes links between sugar cane, yellow fever, Catholicism, the way in which music reflected colonial interactions, and the consequences for South American bodies. The artist makes use of a music piece composed by herself on a large church-style pipe-organ, drawings, historical images, video, sounds and her own voice to tell this semi-fictional story.
