浄土宗大本山光明寺は神奈川県鎌倉市材木座海岸のすぐそばにあります。創建は鎌倉時代の寛(かん)元(げん)元年（1243）、良忠上人（1199-1287）により開かれました。 良(りょう)忠(ちゅう)上人は、宗祖法然上人、二祖聖光(しょうこう)上人に継ぐ浄土宗の第三祖で、浄土宗の基礎を学問的に確立し、多くの著作を残しました。その功績をたたえ、「記(き)主(しゅ)禅師(ぜんじ)」という尊称も授けられています。 また、光明寺は、第九祖観(かん)誉(よ)祐(ゆう)崇(そう)上人を始祖とする浄土宗「十夜(じゅうや)」（注1）発祥の寺として、500年余にわたり連綿と由緒あるこの法要を伝えています。 かつては「関東総本山」といわれ、関東における一大念仏道場である光明寺は、地元の人々にも愛され、毎日多くの参拝者が訪れています。 四季折々に見せる様々な自然豊かな風景。景色が人々の心を和ませる落ち着いた雰囲気の名刹です。 （注1）お十夜法要は浄土宗がよりどころとするお経の一つ『無量寿経』に「煩悩や苦しみの多いこの世界で十日十夜の間、善行をする功徳は、迷いのない仏の国で千年間にわたって善行を勤めることよりも勝る」と説かれることに由来します。 Main Head Temple Komyo-ji Located adjacent to the Zaimokuza beach in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, Komyo-ji, a main head temple of the Pure Land Buddhism (Jodo Shu) was founded in 1243 by the priest Ryochu Shonin (1199–1287). As the third patriarch of the Pure Land Buddhism after Honen Shonin and Shoko Shonin, he completed the scholarly foundations of the sect by writing many books. For his accomplishments he was later awarded the honorific title Kishu Zenji. Uninterrupted for more than five hundred years, the Komyo-ji has conducted juya, a historical Ten-Night service1,In October,when nenbutsu is chanted, originally devised by the temple’s ninth abbot Kanyo Yuso Shonin. Once known as the Kanto Main Temple and a great nenbutsu seminary in the Kanto region, the Komyo-ji is loved by the local populace and is visited by many worshippers daily. With its seasonally changing, beautiful natural setting, it is famous for its calming atmosphere. Note 1.
