Collaborating with ELLE China magazine, Hu Ge stars in this mini-film A Shinagawa Monkey which was released in October 2019. It is adapted from the same-titled short story by Japanese writer Haruki Murakami. Drawing from his unique experience and perspective as an actor, Hu Ge re-writes the story and gives it a refreshing twist. Ever so humble, and probably echoing a point in the film, he uses Bai Ding (白丁) as the pseudonym for his credit as the screenwriter, a word means "an illiterate person" in Chinese.
